PHILADELPHIA — An intense search is underway for a West Philadelphia girl who hasn't been seen in more than a week.
Jalayshia "Malayshia" Alford, 10, was last seen around 7:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 26, according to Philadelphia Police.
She lives on the 500 block of North Simpson Street. 6abc Action News reports that police were using cadaver dogs outside a home on the block Monday evening to search for clues.
Pauline Rosenberg, who owns the home that was searched, described Alford as "a sweet child. She's shy; she's not the kind of child that would run away, you know what I'm saying? I'm real concerned for her."
"I wanted to express my sympathy and my support for my tenant because I was, like, disturbed," Rosenberg told Action News. "The child has been missing for a week, and I had no idea."
Police haven't released details on the circumstances of Alford's disappearance as of this writing.
Alford was last seen wearing blue uniform polo or button-up shirt, blue skirt, blue pullover, blue stockings and either Crocs or black sneakers, police said. She also wears glasses.
She is 4 feet, 11 inches tall and about 70 pounds, police said.
Anyone with information on Alford's location can call the Philadelphia Police Department's Southwest Detective Division at 215-686-3183 or 215-686-3184.
