Boy Found Dead In Trash Can Identified By Philadelphia Police

Police launched a homicide investigation after a 12-year-old boy was found dead inside a trash can in West Philadelphia last week.

PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia Police have identified the boy found dead in a trash can last week in West Philadelphia.

According to police, Hezekiah Bernard, 12, was found inside a trash can at 10:24 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23 at 5500 Cherry Street.

The boy's body was discovered by Philadelphia Housing Authority sanitation workers.

Police said the trash can was located in the back of a Philadelphia Housing Authority dump truck.

Bernard's manner of death was ruled homicide by the Medical Examiner’s Office, authorities said.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police are expected to provide an update on the investigation later Thursday.
