The Historical Society of Frankford, 1507 Orthodox St, Philadelphia

The Historical Society of Frankford is pleased to announce that it will host Camp Dreams, an exhibition of art created by young people, sponsored by Unique Dreams, Inc, on Friday, August 28, 2026 at 6:30 PM.&nbsp;

Unique Dreams, Inc. is a social service non-profit headquartered in Frankford. Its mission is to anchor in change, empower and strengthen youth and families by providing educational enrichment, therapeutic services, recreational programs ​and activities in a phased-in model approach to assure efficacy, while engaging the community with initiatives&nbsp; that will effectively meet the needs of the individuals that it serves. Youth participating in their summer program created the art that will be displayed.

The Historical Society is partnering with Unique Dreams to provide a venue for their special events.&nbsp; The exhibit will be displayed in the HSF Auditorium at 1507 Orthodox St in Philadelphia.

Doors open at 6:30 PM. The event is free and open to the public. Both on street parking and free, off street parking across Orthodox Street at the Frankford Friends School will be available.

Jake Berman is the author of <a href="https://catalog.freelibrary.org/Record/2675297" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">The Lost Subways of North America</a>. His work has been featured in The New Yorker, Vice, Atlas Obscura, and the Guardian. He teaches urban planning at Columbia University.

Both are monthly open mics. CJ hopes to uplift others through her spoken words of poetic expression to heal and educate. Her skills and talents are depth. She is a columnist with the Philadelphia Sunday Sun newspaper since 2020 as well as starting “CJ speaks LIVE radio show” in July 2022 at Scribe Video Center, CJ will walk into a new area of creativity hosting creative writing classes for middle schoolers this summer ages 12-14 Tianna Godsey (she/they) is a desert transplant thriving in the woodlands of PA for the past three decades. Get a glimpse into what students of the past left behind in their laboratory notebooks. Love notes, doodles, mysterious scribbles, clever quotes: what do&nbsp;you&nbsp;take note of in class?
School is back in session, so make your first field trip to the Science History Institute this First Friday! Flip through history with a selection of historical lab notebooks filled with scientific discoveries, unexpected artwork, and a few lingering mysteries. Then take a page from the past and create your own lab notebook! There will be hands-on crafts and activities for all ages.
Ever taken a science class? What experiment—or lab mishap—has stuck with you over the years? Drop by the museum and share your favorite classroom memories. We'd love to compare notes!
Science has been taught in countless ways through the ages. From children’s chemistry sets to building block models of molecules. Explore the many tools people have used to understand the world around them through our handling collection.
Many of the artifacts on display tonight will be featured in the upcoming Closer Read exhibit on historical laboratory notebooks. At&nbsp;6pm, curator&nbsp;Taylor Bailey&nbsp;will offer a brief preview of the exhibition and highlight a few fascinating stories hidden in the margins.
