Parkway Central Library

250 years ago, the Declaration of Independence affirmed that a government exists to serve the people. Although that affirmation has not been enforced with equal measure, Philadelphians have fought to create a City of Brotherly Love. The city's collective beauty is apparent in its parks and public art, while infrastructure such as telephone lines and public transit are reminders of how Philadelphia has evolved to&nbsp;serve its people. As we reflect upon the city's development, its strengths and its shortcomings, how can we best shape a future for Philadelphia's people?

The Colonial Theatre

This July, Phoenixville’s favorite movie monster oozes back into town for an epic three-day takeover at the historic Colonial Theatre during the 27th annual Blobfest. The festival, which is set to take place from July 10 to 12, pays homage to the Colonial’s starring role in the 1958 Steve McQueen classic. This year’s Blobest theme, Cirque Du Blobfest,&nbsp; offers a captivating, carnival-inspired twist on the beloved cult classic, providing a more immersive, theatrical, and wildly entertaining way to experience The Blob than ever before. New events include a Friday Night Immersive Screening &amp; Run-Out, featuring a pre-show led by a ringmaster, followed by a Rocky Horror Picture Show-style screening of The Blob. Audiences won’t just watch the film; they’ll become part of the action before recreating the iconic theatre run-out scene. The public is also invited to attend Dinner en Blob, a brand-new Blobfest event inspired by the beloved Dinner en Blanc tradition, with a twist.

Paint with confidence by learning techniques to tap into your intuitive process and find inspiration more easily! Experienced instruction and advice will push students to take chances and explore unexpected directions and accidental marks to achieve artistic discoveries. Students will use line, color and space, and editing possibilities to create busy/calm areas and focal points in their paintings as they work from personal imagery, expression, and imagination. Instruction will take the form of PowerPoint presentation/examples, formal direction from modern and contemporary artists, and one-on-on critiques in Zoom sessions that are geared toward open painting time in a classroom-like setting.
Painting experience recommended.
