During this exclusive event, educators will get
<ul><li>an up-close introduction to the exhibitions</li><li>a meet-and-greet with the team from our podcast, <a href="https://www.sciencehistory.org/stories/distillations-pod/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Distillations</a>, where you'll learn how to use podcasts as a classroom tool</li><li>an opportunity to talk to one of our librarians about resources you can use in the classroom</li><li>a preview of our field trip options, including a self-guided walkthrough of our Women in Chemistry tour and an interactive game about the periodic table of the elements</li><li>light refreshments</li></ul>
It’s a great opportunity to discover new ways to bring the history of science into your classroom and experience the exhibitions before bringing your class for a group tour.

Poet CJ is an educator, journalist, poet, author, inspirational writer, broadcaster, and motivational speaker. A/K/A Cheryl Jones, she has been writing and sharing her gift of poetry with others for over 30 years. She is the founder/host of ‘Spoken Word of Mobile’ in 2001 and ‘Spoken Word of Philly’ in 2023. Both are monthly open mics. CJ hopes to uplift others through her spoken words of poetic expression to heal and educate. Her skills and talents are depth. She is a columnist with the Philadelphia Sunday Sun newspaper since 2020 as well as starting “CJ speaks LIVE radio show” in July 2022 at Scribe Video Center, CJ will walk into a new area of creativity hosting creative writing classes for middle schoolers this summer ages 12-14 Tianna Godsey (she/they) is a desert transplant thriving in the woodlands of PA for the past three decades. Her work is very much inspired by wolves and the natural world around us—including three self-published poetry &amp; prose collections, the most recent being ‘Untrammeled: golden-cracked words’, exploring that which makes us unique and beautiful even with our scars.&nbsp; Find more at creativetianna.com.

Get a glimpse into what students of the past left behind in their laboratory notebooks. Love notes, doodles, mysterious scribbles, clever quotes: what do&nbsp;you&nbsp;take note of in class?
School is back in session, so make your first field trip to the Science History Institute this First Friday! Flip through history with a selection of historical lab notebooks filled with scientific discoveries, unexpected artwork, and a few lingering mysteries. Then take a page from the past and create your own lab notebook! There will be hands-on crafts and activities for all ages.
Ever taken a science class? What experiment—or lab mishap—has stuck with you over the years? Drop by the museum and share your favorite classroom memories. We'd love to compare notes!
Science has been taught in countless ways through the ages. From children’s chemistry sets to building block models of molecules. Explore the many tools people have used to understand the world around them through our handling collection.
Many of the artifacts on display tonight will be featured in the upcoming Closer Read exhibit on historical laboratory notebooks. At&nbsp;6pm, curator&nbsp;Taylor Bailey&nbsp;will offer a brief preview of the exhibition and highlight a few fascinating stories hidden in the margins.
