From Philadelphia favorites Applied Mechanics comes a spectacular new show, RUN BEN RUN: a maniacal, surreal satire starring famous Bens from throughout American history, from Ben Franklin to Ben Affleck. Thrown together on a film set with the goal of making a movie about the John Gast painting American Progress, the Bens wrestle with identity, fame, and the versions of American identity that live within each of us. The play surrounds the audience with a panoply of different offerings from the different Bens. Will Ben Affleck be able to finish his movie without his star, Ben Franklin? Will Ben Vereen dance his way out of danger? Will Benedict Arnold clear his name? And will Benito Antonio Ocasio Cortez (Bad Bunny) finally write the song to bring us together? The Bens begin to wonder: can they rewrite history? Or should they just… run away?
Using drag, choreography, pastiche, and an absurd original script, some of Philly’s favorite performers craft a spectacle that tears apart the underlying assumptions about American Progress.

Shantay Mercedes Watson is an Author, Speaker, and Spoken Word Poet, who is New York born and Pennsylvania raised and operates under the moniker EXHIBIT TAY. No stranger to hardship, Shan-Tay chose not to be defined by the labels of her hardships. Instead, she emerged as an overcomer, committed to transparently sharing her journey through adversity, resilience, healing, growth and transformation. Her mission is to inspire and empower others by BEING THE EVIDENCE that victory is possible. Her debut poetry book, AUDACITY, has become a declaration of courage and her sophomore poetry book, RELINQUISHED For Peace's Sake demonstrates the power of mindset and choice. Shan-Tay has a passion for ministry and a background in Crisis Intervention and Victim Advocacy.
Angel Hogan is a poet and filmmaker with an MA in creative writing from Drexel University. She has performed as part of the Black Women's Arts Festival, Literary Death Match, Moonstone Presents, First Person Arts and the Philadelphia Fringe Festival. Angel is a Black Music City Grantee; her short feature, By Law, By Love: A Documentary about Family, Race, and Identity, was Selected for the First Annual B.PHL Innovation Film Festival. Angel believes in the transformational power of stories.

All lovers of fall are invited to join Bethesda Project's Young Professionals Advisory Board (YPAB) for their beloved Carving Change event on October 15th at the PHS Pop-Up Garden on South Street, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM!
Carving Change is a festive evening with jack-o'-lantern carving and delicious drinks, all to benefit the Bethesda Project. All proceeds will support the important work of Bethesda Project, a Philadelphia nonprofit organization that has been assisting individuals experiencing homelessness since 1979 by providing shelter, housing, and supportive services.
Your ticket includes a complimentary draft beer, canned beverage, or non-alcoholic option; a spooky goodie bag; carving supplies; and a pre-gutted pumpkin to ensure a mess-free experience. Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts

Join us for an illuminating conversation between curators from two of America's most distinguished art institutions as part of PAFA's landmark exhibition A Nation of Artists. Dr. Lea Stephenson, Kenneth R. Woodcock Curator of Historical American Art at PAFA, and Kerry Bickford, Associate Curator at the Brandywine Museum of Art, explore how American artists have depicted landscapes—from the Hudson River School's sublime vistas to the Brandywine tradition's intimate terrain, and contemporary artists reimagining these spaces today.
This dialogue examines how landscape painting has shaped American cultural identity across centuries, reflecting changing relationships with the land, environment, and national mythology. Drawing on the rich collections of both institutions, our speakers will trace connections between historical masters and today's artists who continue to challenge and expand how we see the American landscape.
As America celebrates its 250th anniversary and PAFA reopens its Historic Landmark Building with A Nation of Artists, this program offers a rare opportunity to explore one of American art's most enduring subjects through fresh eyes and urgent questions about place, belonging, and our shared horizons.
This program is offered in a hybrid format—attend in person at PAFA or watch the live stream on YouTube. A link to the livestream will be emailed to all registrants by 11:30 AM on the day of the event. A recording of the program will be shared with registrants following the event.
About Kerry Bickford and Brandywine
Kerry Bickford is a Philadelphia-based curator and artistic producer whose practice focuses on site-responsive public art and intersections between art and local ecology. She is currently Associate Curator at the Brandywine Conservancy and Museum of Art, where she has curated Abundance/Excess: A Contemporary Eye on Still Life. Prior to joining Brandywine, she served as Senior Project Manager at Monument Lab, where she produced Declaration House and the Monument Lab Summit. Bickford has also worked as Curator of Ecological Futures and Director of Programs at Philadelphia Contemporary, where she curated or co-curated the projects Jean Shin: Freshwater, Lenape Sippu: Call Her by Her Name, Tracey Emin: A Moment Without You, Commonwealth, Edward Burtynsky: Megaresources, and Ana Vizcarra Rankin: time/scale. She has produced and co-produced numerous projects including Grounds that Shout! (and others merely shaking) and Jane Irish: Antipodes. Bickford has an M.A. from the Williams College Graduate Program in the History of Art and a B.A. in English and Art History from Northwestern University.
Renowned for its holdings of the Wyeth family of artists, the Brandywine Museum of Art features galleries dedicated to the work of N.C. Wyeth, Andrew Wyeth and Jamie Wyeth. The Museum’s outstanding Brandywine Collection is a cross-section of American art, with a special focus on artistic practice in the Brandywine Valley. Nineteenth- and twentieth-century landscape paintings testify to the beauty that drew well-known artists to the area. Important portraits, still life paintings and notable holdings in American illustration add diversity and breadth to this unique collection.

About Dr. Lea Stephenson
Dr. Lea Stephenson is an art historian, who is currently the Kenneth R. Woodcock Curator of Historical American Art at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
She oversees PAFA’s collection from the eighteenth to the early twentieth century and serves as the co-curator of A Nation of Artists, a landmark exhibition and reinstallation that explores new ideas and interpretations of American art through the 18th century to the contemporary world.
Stephenson’s work has focused on nineteenth-century American art, particularly American artists traveling and working internationally. Her work has appeared in academic journals, edited volumes, and exhibition catalogs, where she explored topics including PAFA’s first 1807 exhibition, Aesthetic Movement interiors, and Gilded Age portrait miniatures. Prior to joining PAFA, Stephenson held curatorial positions and fellowships at Historic Deerfield, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Preservation Society of Newport County, Dallas Museum of Art, and the Clark Art Institute.
She recently completed her PhD in Art History at the University of Delaware in 2025, where her dissertation explored late nineteenth-century Egyptomania among American artists and collectors. Gloucester County Historical Society Museum, 58 N. Broad Street in Woodbury

The <a href="https://www.gchsnj.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Gloucester County Historical Society</a>&nbsp;takes a look back at the ghost stories from the Civil War in a special presentation in its Museum hosted by Civil War reenactor Vince Dicicco from 7:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 15. He will detail the haunted sites, errie encounters, and tales of apparitions reported from buildings and sites across the grounds where the Battle of Gettysburg was fought.
Gettysburg is considered one of the most haunted places in the country, with numerous accounts of ghostly regiments, phantom horsemen, and mysterious faces appearing in photographs. Sites like Devil’s Den at Gettysburg, Bloody Lane at Antietam, Chickamauga, Sharpsburg, Shiloh, and Andersonville are well-known for reports of spectral soldiers wandering the grounds or reenacting historical battles.
Tourists and locals at Gettysburg have reported seeing apparitions, hearing the sounds of battle, and encountering unexplained phenomena around landmarks such as the Gettysburg Orphanage, Farnsworth House, and Soldier’s Orphanage cellar. Bloody Lane at Antietam has tales of ghostly singing, vanishing Confederate soldiers, phantom gunfire, and strange smells attributed to lingering spirits of fallen men.
