Neighborhood House

From Philadelphia favorites Applied Mechanics comes a spectacular new show, RUN BEN RUN: a maniacal, surreal satire starring famous Bens from throughout American history, from Ben Franklin to Ben Affleck. Thrown together on a film set with the goal of making a movie about the John Gast painting American Progress, the Bens wrestle with identity, fame, and the versions of American identity that live within each of us. The play surrounds the audience with a panoply of different offerings from the different Bens. Will Ben Affleck be able to finish his movie without his star, Ben Franklin? Will Ben Vereen dance his way out of danger? Will Benedict Arnold clear his name? And will Benito Antonio Ocasio Cortez (Bad Bunny) finally write the song to bring us together? The Bens begin to wonder: can they rewrite history? Or should they just… run away?
Using drag, choreography, pastiche, and an absurd original script, some of Philly’s favorite performers craft a spectacle that tears apart the underlying assumptions about American Progress.

The Historical Society of Frankford, 1507 Orthodox St, Philadelphia

The Historical Society of Frankford today announced that Sam Katz, president of History Making Productions, will make a video presentation at HSF’s monthly meeting and lecture on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. He will present episode 7, Renewal, of his series In Pursuit: Philadelphia and the Making of America. The film explores Philadelphia from 1925 to 1963, a period shaped by the Great Depression, World War II, political transformation, and ambitious efforts to remake the city. Through stories of Albert M. Greenfield, shifting political power, racial discrimination in housing and employment, and the rise of urban renewal, the episode examines who benefited from Philadelphia’s reinvention and who was left behind.Katz, a lifelong Philadelphian now well known for ventures in business, politics, and documentary filmmaking, realized in 2007 that no authoritative film history then existed for his hometown. To fill that void, he assembled a team of scholars, storytellers, and filmmakers to create inclusive and compelling video presentations. This team would become History Making Productions, which since then has produced award winning and widely acclaimed films about Philadelphia and other cities.Doors open at 7:00 PM, and the presentation begins at 7:30. It will also stream live on the HSF Facebook page. The event is free and open to the public at the Society's building, located at 1507 Orthodox St, Philadelphia. Free, off street parking will be available across Orthodox Street at the Frankford Friends School. Light refreshments will be served before and after the presentation.

Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts

Join us for an illuminating conversation between curators from two of America's most distinguished art institutions as part of PAFA's landmark exhibition A Nation of Artists. Dr. Lea Stephenson, Kenneth R. Woodcock Curator of Historical American Art at PAFA, and Kerry Bickford, Associate Curator at the Brandywine Museum of Art, explore how American artists have depicted landscapes—from the Hudson River School's sublime vistas to the Brandywine tradition's intimate terrain, and contemporary artists reimagining these spaces today.
This dialogue examines how landscape painting has shaped American cultural identity across centuries, reflecting changing relationships with the land, environment, and national mythology. Drawing on the rich collections of both institutions, our speakers will trace connections between historical masters and today's artists who continue to challenge and expand how we see the American landscape.
As America celebrates its 250th anniversary and PAFA reopens its Historic Landmark Building with A Nation of Artists, this program offers a rare opportunity to explore one of American art's most enduring subjects through fresh eyes and urgent questions about place, belonging, and our shared horizons.
This program is offered in a hybrid format—attend in person at PAFA or watch the live stream on YouTube. A link to the livestream will be emailed to all registrants by 11:30 AM on the day of the event. A recording of the program will be shared with registrants following the event.

Renowned for its holdings of the Wyeth family of artists, the Brandywine Museum of Art features galleries dedicated to the work of N.C. Wyeth, Andrew Wyeth and Jamie Wyeth. The Museum’s outstanding Brandywine Collection is a cross-section of American art, with a special focus on artistic practice in the Brandywine Valley. Nineteenth- and twentieth-century landscape paintings testify to the beauty that drew well-known artists to the area. Important portraits, still life paintings and notable holdings in American illustration add diversity and breadth to this unique collection.
