Carson Wentz Out This Week, Could Be Done For The Year

Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz will not play this week and could be done for the year, according to sources.

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz will likely not play this week against the Rams and could be done for the year, according to sources.

The news, first broke by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, comes a week after the Eagles crushing overtime loss to the Cowboys, putting them in a deep hole and making a playoff appearance unlikely.

Wentz is reportedly dealing with a "back issue," according to Rapoport. The team is evaluating his health but since the season is so close to the end, it's possible this could be it for Wentz.

The Eagles budding franchise player has shown flashes of his 2017 MVP-caliber brilliance, but has also failed to show the same consistency he did in the first half of his injury shortened campaign last season.

Wentz's back also bothered him earlier this season, but he was able to play through it.

His rating of 102.2 still ranks 7th among qualifying quarterbacks this year. He's thrown for an average of 279.5 yards per game with 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Given the Eagles situation and the fact that they probably need other Wild Card contenders to lose in order to have a chance at a playoff spot, it wouldn't be surprising to see Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles take the reigns for the remainder of the year.

The Eagles, who sit at 6-7, have three games left.
