Child Critical After Tuesday Hit And Run: Philadelphia Police​

Bystanders lifted the vehicle off the child who was pinned under it after the driver struck the child, her sister, and their mother.

PHILADELPHIA – A 3-year-old girl is in critical condition after she, her sister, and her mother were struck by a vehicle Tuesday night as they were walking down the street, according to Philadelphia Police.

Police said a 35-year-old woman and her two young daughters, ages 3 and 4, were hit by a vehicle at about 6:49 p.m. Tuesday, March 6 while walking on the 3200 block of Tyson Avenue in the city's Mayfair section.

The driver, a 32-year-old man, fled the scene after the crash but was later taken into custody, police said. Charges are pending, according to police.

The family was walking down the street when a Honda Prelude heading south drove onto the sidewalk and hit them, as well as a fence, police said.

The suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene with the 3 year old still pinned under the vehicle, police said.

Bystanders lifted the vehicle and pulled the child out from under it, according to police.

All three victims were taken to a hospital for treatment.

The 3 year old trapped under the vehicle is in critical condition with burns to her body, police said.

The mother and 4 year old were treated for minor scrapes and pains, police said.

The police department's Accident Investigation Division is investigating the crash.
