Here are the top three stories in Philadelphia today:
- 343 plaintiffs, most of them protestors who were tear gassed on the Vine Street Expressway during the 2020 George Floyd riots, will split a $9.25 million lawsuit settlement paid out by the City of Philadelphia. According to WPVI Action News, "police fired tear gas at dozens of protesters trapped on I-676 by SWAT team officers on both sides. Many were unable to retreat to an on-ramp and clambered to get up a steep embankment and over a concrete wall and fence." (6abc Philadelphia)
- A gunman opened fire on three teenagers on the 1500 block of N. Frazier Street in West Philadelphia on Monday afternoon. The teens, ages 13 and 16 were shot in the stomachs, feet and legs and were all rushed to the hospital where one is in critical condition. Police recovered a firearm at the scene but have made no arrests yet. (nbcphiladelphia.com)
- No more fake smiles and handshakes in the Philly mayor's race. Candidates have been unleashing their P.R. firms and it looks like Jeff Brown, who's currently polling in the lead, has a target on his back as a few attack ads were launched his way. Meanwhile, former mayors Michael Nutter and John Street both appear in a commercial in support of Rebecca Rhynhart. (NBC 10 Philadelphia)
