Cop Shoots Suspected Armed Robber In West Philadelphia

The shooting occurred Tuesday morning on the 4900 block of Walnut Street and the suspect is reportedly in critical condition.

PHILADELPHIA – A suspected armed robber has reportedly been hospitalized after a plainclothes Philadelphia Police officer shot the suspect Tuesday morning in West Philadelphia, according to police and media reports.

The shooting occurred at about 9:30 a.m. on the 4900 block of Walnut Street after the officer followed a vehicle suspected to be involved in the robbery of deli at about 9 a.m. Tuesday, CBS Philadelphia reports.

That vehicle eventually crashed and when the officer approached the driver and identified himself as an officer, police say the suspect made a gesture toward his waist.

That's when the officer fired his service weapon at the driver, striking him in the chest.

According to NBC10, the suspect was rushed to a hospital and listed in critical condition.
