The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Philadelphia.

(Patch Media)

Morning, friends! It's me, Patty-Pat Kozlowski, your host of the Philadelphia Patch newsletter. Let's get this day started off right, with a quick review of everything you need to know about what's going on around town. Today's briefing includes:

  • D.A. Larry Krasner testified before City Council and asked for an addition $7 million for shoplifting and carjacking crimes.
  • Philly's ex-treasurer is going to prison for a sham marriage and not filing income taxes.
  • Fans of the Philly Pops want their money back for no-shows.

But first, today's weather:

Mostly cloudy, a shower; warm. High: 76 Low: 63.

Here are the top three stories today in Philadelphia:

  1. Since District Attorney Larry Krasner took office there has been 2,393 murders in the City of Philadelphia and an unprecedented 10,106 shootings. That's an uptick of 66% before he became Philly's top prosecutor. Philadelphia City Council was not too happy that he testified he needed $7 million more in his budget to prosecute shoplifting and carjackings. (KYW)
  2. How does the treasurer for the City of Philadelphia not file his income taxes? Ex-Philly Treasurer Christian Dunbar stood before U.S. Judge Cynthia Rufe and took full responsibility as she sentenced him to six months for lying about a "sham" marriage and failing to file taxes. (The Philadelphia Inquirer)
  3. It's hard to be a Philly Pops fan. First the beloved and historic orchestra that started in 1979, was evicted out of the Kimmel Center for non-payment of rent. Then the musicians sued for back pay and their union voted to strike during negotiations in December of 2022. Now, the fans that filled the seats for decades are demanding refunds for concerts they paid for but not one note was ever played. (NBC 10 Philadelphia)
