Teen Charged With Murder Escapes Custody In Philadelphia: Police

Shane Pryor, 17, was charged with murder when he was just 14 years old. He escaped custody Wednesday at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA — A 17-year-old prisoner being held on murder and related charges escaped custody Wednesday, Philadelphia Police said.

According to police, Shane Pryor, 17, was last seen heading toward the area of University Avenue and Civic Center Boulevard and authorities are searching for him.

He is considered dangerous.

Police said Pryor fled from the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia emergency room parking lot at 34th and Spruce streets at about 11:56 a.m. Wednesday. Pryor was taken to CHOP due to a hand injury, authorities said.

It's unclear if Pryor was shackled in the vehicle that transported him to the hospital.

After his escape, police said Pryor went into a few buildings in the area, prompting police to search those buildings with no results.

Police are also searching nearby parking garages.

He is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds, police said.

Pryor was last seen wearing blue sweatpants and a blue sweatshirt, with socks and flip-flops. Police said he may have taken off the blue sweatshirt and may be in a blue T-shirt.

Pryor was in custody on murder, firearm, and more charges after an October 2020 arrest. He has been in custody in the Juvenile Justice Services Center since he was 14 years old, police said.

Philadelphia Police are being assisted in the search by the U.S. Marshals and Penn Police. Members of the department's homicide unit are also looking for Pryor.

Anyone who sees Pryor is urged to call 911 and not to approach him.
