Drexel Frat Gets 5-Year Suspension
Tau Kappa Epsilon was recently accused of sexual assault, but the five-year suspension come from alcohol policy violations, the school said.
PHILADELPHIA – After being hit with an interim suspension following sexual assault allegations, a Drexel University fraternity will not be allowed to conduct business at the school for several years after officials found the frat to be in violation of the school's alcohol policy and regulations.
Tau Kappa Epsilon was accused of two sexual assaults, on on May 28 and one on May 4 and was placed on interim suspension and now the school slapped the frat with a five-year suspension in an unrelated case.
The Triangle, Drexel's newspaper, reports the suspension comes from two unregistered socials and alcohol violations.

"All privileges and benefits conferred by recognition have been suspended. As a result, Tau Kappa Epsilon must cease all operations, including sponsoring, co-sponsoring, or otherwise participating in any activities alone or with other organizations," the school said in a statement. "The University is working in partnership with the fraternity’s alumni and International Headquarters during this period of transition."
An appeal can be filed, but must be done so by June 2, and the fraternity must vacate its Powelton Avenue house by June 17, according to the Triangle.

"Drexel values its fraternity and sorority community and recognizes the positive impact membership can have on the individual experiences of students and the esprit de corps of the University," the school's statement reads. "It is unfortunate when any student organization loses recognition at the University."
The fraternity's national chapter released a statement on the suspension Thursday evening.
"Based on the information we've received thus far, Tau Kappa Epsilon is disappointed by this decision from Drexel University to close our group for five years," the statement reads. "As we seek more information in the coming days, TKE will evaluate our options for appealing their decision."
The fraternity said it hopes school officials reconsider the suspension.
"Recently, members of the Drexel University administration were a valued part of the celebration of the 2,000th initiate into the Alpha-Tau chapter," the statement said. "Among these 2,000 men are many proud members and significant contributors to the TKE and Drexel communities."
Recently, another Drexel fraternity, Pi Kappa Alpha, was accused of rape and university officials said they were investigating the allegations.
