Drexel University Basketball Player Found Dead In Apartment

Rising junior Terrence Butler was found dead in his on-campus apartment Wednesday. He was a forward on the school's basketball team.

PHILADELPHIA — A Drexel University basketball player was found dead in an off-campus apartment Wednesday.

According to the university, Terrence Butler, a rising junior who was a forward on the basketball team, died Wednesday morning.

Butler was studying at Drexel's College of Engineering.

The 6-foot-7-inch tall player hailed from Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and was a graduate of Bishop McNamara High School.

"Our coaching staff and school community express our sincere condolences to the Butler family, Class of ‘21," Bishop McNamara High School's basketball program said on social media. "Please keep the entire Butler family in your prayers."

Butler is survived by his parents Terrence and Dena Butler, and sisters Tasia and Tiara, who are also basketball players.

There is no word on what caused his death.

"On behalf of the entire Drexel community, we extend our deepest sympathy to Terrence’s family, friends and teammates," Drexel University President John Fry said in a statement. "In addition to being a student-athlete, Terrence was involved in numerous activities and organizations at Drexel and was a friend to many throughout the University community."
