DTLR Donates $10,000 to Down North Foundation, Helps Local Youth
DTLR Partners with Down North Foundation to Launch Growing Freedom Project for Philadelphia Juvenile Justice Services Center
Last week, DTLR, one of the country’s most successful lifestyle retailers with more than 240 stores in 19 states, donated $10,000 to the Down North Foundation’s Growing Freedom Project for young individuals at the Philadelphia Juvenile Justice Services Center (PJJSC). The project aims to transform unused parcels of land into urban farms, while educating youth at the PJJSC about sustainability, and how to garden, harvest and cook the produce they grow themselves.
“As part of our Dare To Live Right pillar, DTLR strongly believes in providing these youths with unique skills and more opportunities they can leverage once they return to society,” says Tremayne Lipscomb Jr., DTLR's Community Outreach Director. “We’re honored to partner with the Down North Foundation to launch this incredible project, which we know will help hundreds of students learn the importance of growing and cooking their own produce.”
The Down North Foundation's mission is grounded in the idea of creating opportunities and initiatives that focus on empowering the existing community to be a part of the change. The Growing Freedom Project will be supported by a collective of local community activists, academics and Philadelphia business leaders.

"The Down North Foundation ultimately is about empowering urban communities that have been
forgotten," says Muhammad Abdul-Hadi, Founder of Down North Foundation. “We believe change happens at the community level and requires imagination and reconstruction, and we’re excited to be able to put our ideas and plans into practice to achieve the creation of safe, inclusive community-centered places – plot by plot.”
DTLR takes pride in its role in fashion, music and culture, and gives back to the communities it serves through several other programs, including toy drives and partnerships with athletes and recording artists to support local schools and communities.
