Philly Cop Charged With Homicide After Shooting Uncle While Off-Duty: Officials

ALLEN TOWNSHIP, PA — A Philadelphia Police officer was charged with homicide after authorities say he shot and killed his uncle while off-duty Friday in Northampton County.

Kenroy Anthony Cummings was charged after a reported domestic incident in Allen Township — north of Allentown — according to State Police.

In court documents, Cummings admitted to shooting his uncle — Shakair Moncrieffe, 27 — but said it was self-defense, according to KYW.

State troopers were dispatched around 1:45 p.m. Friday to a home on the 1200 block of Old Gate Road in Allen Township. They discovered Cummings shot a man and fled the scene in an orange 2023 Kia Forte, authorities said.

A few miles away, troopers saw Cummings driving in Hanover Township. They activated their lights and siren in a marked patrol vehicle, but Cummings fled, police said.

Troopers say they continued to pursue the Kia before Cummings returned to the Allen Township home. He was arrested without incident, police said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital that afternoon.

Cummings, 25, of Philadelphia, was charged with criminal homicide (first-degree felony) and fleeing or attempting to elude police (third-degree felony).

He was denied bail and remains jailed in Northampton County. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 6.

Cummings didn't immediately have a listed attorney who could comment on his behalf.

State Police are leading the ongoing investigation.

Cummings was a two-year patrol officer in the Kensington District. He is on unpaid status and will be removed from Philadelphia Police, a department spokesperson told Patch.
