The Eagles Destroyed The Falcons To Open The 2021 Season In Atlanta
A new era of Philadelphia Eagles football got off on the right Sunday afternoon in Atlanta.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The new era of Philadelphia Eagles football started auspiciously on Sunday afternoon in Atlanta, as the Jalen Hurts-led offense brought head coach Nick Sirianni his first win in convincing fashion. The Birds dominated from the get-go and came away with a 32-6 win over the Falcons.
That was in no small part due to the performance from Hurts, who was drafted as a backup for Carson Wentz and who was named the full time starter this summer after Wentz was shipped off to Indianapolis. Hurts completed 27 of 35 attempts on the day, including three touchdown passes, for a total of 264 yards. He also did significant damage on the ground, taking advantage of a lax Atlanta defense and rushing seven times for 62 yards.
After falling 3-0, the Eagles rallied with a touchdown in the first quarter and never looked back. That first drive was capped by this connection from Hurts to Devonta Smith:

A big set at the end of the first half set the tone for the rest of the game, as Hurts drove the Birds down the field methodically and connected with Dallas Goedert fo another touchdown as the clock ticked down to just seconds left.

The Birds defense was also stellar, limiting Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan to just 164 yards passing. It was a more dominant performance than was seen anywhere around the league in Week 1:

The Eagles are the only defense so far in Week 1 that did not allow a single play of 20+ yards. Great debut for first-time defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon.

What's more: the Birds are alone atop the standings in the NFC East, as they were the only team amongst their rivals that won their opener. The Giants, Cowboys, and Washington all fell.
The fun continues in Week 2 for the Birds, as they host the San Francisco 49ers in Philadelphia for their home opener next Sunday at 1 p.m.
