"Um," Jalen Hurts told a reporter, when asked about the visit.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles will be in the nation's capital Monday afternoon to celebrate their victory at the White House with President Trump.

Rumors swirled for weeks over the winter that the Birds would decline the invitation, especially after most of the 2017 Super Bowl winning team declined to visit during Trump's first term. Those rumors proved to be unfounded, however, as the Eagles "enthusiastically" accepted.

Jalen Hurts is among several Eagles players who will not be attending, multiple outlets have reported, including NBC News and the Delaware News Journal. A White House spokesperson reportedly said there were "scheduling conflicts."

Before the news Monday, however, Hurts was at the TIME 100 Gala over the weekend when a reporter asked him if he would attend the White House celebration. He responded "um," before looking about and declining to say anything else.

The Eagles have repeatedly made clear in public that player attendance is fully optional, and the words from some players — or lack of words — has sparked further speculation on the issue.

It's not clear what other Eagles players may or may not be attending.

Running back Saquon Barkley, meanwhile, who made the rounds with Hurts on late night television after the Super Bowl win, played golf with President Trump last week and has taken a firmly apolitical stance towards relations with world leaders.

"lol some people are really upset cause I played golfed and flew to the White House with the PRESIDENT," Barkley wrote on his X account in response to his golf game with Trump. "Maybe I just respect the office, not a hard concept to understand. Just golfed with Obama not too long ago…and look forward to finishing my round with Trump ! Now ya get out my mentions with all this politics and have amazing day."

Details on the exact schedule or what will occur during the visit Monday have not been released, though similar events in the past have involved the president giving a speech congratulating the team in person.
