Eulogy In Old City Closing, Drugs And Crime Cited As Cause

The Belgian tavern announced its closure on Facebook Aug. 9 after 15 years of serving Philadelphians and tourists.

PHILADELPHIA– Eulogy Belgian Tavern is closing, the business announced on social media Thursday.

The Old City business known for its coffin tables said after 15 years the doors will be closed and cited crime and drugs in the city as the impetus.

"Unfortunately, we feel the current epidemic drug and crime spree in Philadelphia has made it too difficult to safely staff and operate our business anymore so we're taking a break," the owners said on Facebook.

The 136 Chestnut Street building will be sold and all the contents, including those coffins, will be auctioned off online at Philadelphia-based AuctionNation.com.

"Maybe we'll see you again in the future but that's not certain," owners said in the announcement. "In the meantime, Live the Eulogy You Want and know we are eternally grateful to all guest and employees over the past 15 years. This concludes Eulogy's Eulogy."
