Family Sues School After Students Teased Son With 'ISIS' Nickname

The suit claims a Catholic school official called the FBI on a student over a presentation and that he was called "ISIS" by classmates.

PHILADELPHIA – A Philadelphia family of Pakistani nationality is suing a Northeast Philadelphia Catholic school, alleging the school called the FBI on their son over a presentation and that officials didn't act accordingly when classmates began calling him "ISIS," according to reports.

The family of Syed Naqvi has filed a federal race discrimination lawsuit in Philadelphia against St. Dominic Catholic School, as well as the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, according to CBS Philly.

More than $150,000 in damages are sought in the suit.

The suit alleges the school and archdiocese did nothing to stop the alleged bullying that began after the 2015 shooting in San Bernardino, California, which was perpetrated by a male Pakistani immigrant and an American woman with Pakistani parentage.

It also claims the school's then principal called the FBI in 2016 after Naqvi gave a presentation of a tour of Philadelphia that featured a scene showing a crashed car exploding, Philly Magazine reports.

The FBI quickly deemed the presentation not a threat.

CBS reports Naqvi and his four siblings later withdrew from the school.
