Flooding Closes South Philadelphia School Tuesday

School District of Philadelphia officials said the Academy at Palumbo School was forced to close Tuesday due to flooding in the building.

PHILADELPHIA – A School District of Philadelphia School was forced to close early Tuesday due to flooding impacts from the weekend's heavy rains, according to the district.

The Academy at Palumbo School, located at 1100 Catharine St., was dismissed at 1 p.m. after being affected by heavy rains over the weekend.

Several classrooms, hallways, and the cafeteria have been affected by the flooding, the district said.

Tuesday morning, school students were relocated to parts of the building such as the auditorium that were not impacted by flooding and alternate arrangements were made for breakfast and lunch.

The district’s Office of Facilities is working to resolve this issue, according to the district.
