Photographer Killed After Getting Swept Away In Philly Creek

Rebecca Bunting, 30, was shooting photos in the creek this weekend when flash floods swept her away, according to police and media reports.

PHILADELPHIA – A 30-year-old Philadelphia photographer and bartender died after flash flooding swept her away in Philadelphia's Pennypack Creek Saturday, June 2, according to Philadelphia Police.

Rebecca Bunting, 30, was shooting photos in the creek at Sandyford and Ryan avenues Saturday evening when flash flooding quickly rose the water level and carried her away, Action News reports.

A man she was with called police at about 6 p.m. to report Bunting went in the water but did not make it out, prompting a marine unit, as well as helicopters, to respond and scour the creek area for her.

Bunting's body was found at about 10 a.m. Sunday, June 3 just upstream of the Frankford Avenue Bridge, according to police.

Action News reports Bunting and the man she was with were inside a storm drain by Roosevelt Boulevard when a rush of water came through.

When the waters rose during the flooding it was about 10 feet deep, NBC10 reports.

According to PennLive Bunting was a popular bartender at Miller's Ale House.
