Funeral Details For Killed Temple Police Officer Set

Christopher Fitzgerald was killed in the line of duty Saturday night. His funeral is planned for Friday in Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA — Temple University Police Officer Christopher Fitzgerald was shot and killed Saturday night, and a suburban teenager has been charged with murder and related crimes in connection with his death.

Fitzgerald, who joined the Temple University Police Department in October 2021, will be laid to rest Friday at Forest Hills Cemetery, 101 Byberry Road in Huntingdon Valley, after the service.

His interment will take place after viewing hours at at Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, 1723 Race St. in Philadelphia.

Friday's viewing is scheduled to be held from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday.

Additional viewing hours are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at John F. Givnish Funeral Home, 10975 Academy Road in Philadelphia.

Fitzgerald leaves behind four children, his wife Marissa, and numerous family members, friends, and colleagues who remember him as a dedicated member of the Philadelphia community.

A GoFundMe campaign has been established in his name.

Additionally, the Fraternal Order of the Police Lodge 5 is hosting a fundraiser event at its lodge, 11630 Caroline Road in Philadelphia, at 4 p.m. Thursday.

And, Barstool Sports is also supporting the Fitzgerald family by selling Temple University Police shirts for $30 each.

All shirt sale proceeds will benefit the family, according to Barstool Sports
