Hafsah Abdul-Rahman said her doing the viral "Griddy" dance at Philadelphia High School for Girls' commencement cost her diploma.
PHILADELPHIA — You can do the "Griddy" dance on TikTok, in the end zone, at home plate, on the street, and pretty much every other place imaginable.
But you cannot do the viral dance at the commencement ceremony for the Philadelphia High School for Girls.

The dance, Abdul-Rahman told Fox 29, was done partly in honor of her sister, who was killed by a stray bullet in 2014.
Philadelphia High School for Girls does not allow clapping or cheering at its commencement, and according to NBC10 the dance prompted laughter from the crowd, which led to the diploma being withheld.
The School District of Philadelphia apologized to Abdul-Rahman and three others who did not get their diplomas during the ceremony.
"The District does not condone the withholding of earned diplomas based on family members cheering for their graduates," a statement from the district reads. "We apologize to all the families and graduates who were impacted and are further looking into this matter to avoid it happening in the future."
Abdul-Rahman and the others were given diplomas after the ceremony, but Abdul-Rahman said the principal ruined her big moment.
