PHILADELPHIA, PA — Sixers franchise icon Joel Embiid is staying in Philly for the long haul, as he's reportedly signed a three year, $192 million contract extension that will make him a Sixer through the 2029 season.

The news was first reported by ESPN's Ramona Shelbourne and confirmed moments later by Embiid himself in an Instagram post.

“Philadelphia is home," Embiid wrote. "I want to be here for the rest of my career. I love this community and everything you’ve given me and my family. There is a lot more work to do. You guys deserve a championship and I think we’re just getting started. #TrustTheProcess

Embiid, tne NBA MVP two seasons ago, remained the most dominant player in the league last year when he was healthy. But staying healthy was the trick, as he was only able to appear in 39 games, and the Sixers struggled to a 7th place finish in the Eastern Conference as a result.

The 30-year-old big man has vowed to bring a championship to Philly, and he'll now have at least five more seasons as a Sixer to accomplish it.

It's already been a decade since Embiid was taken by Philly third overall in the 2014 draft. He's the longest tenured member of the team.
