Major Upgrades Planned For South Philly Sports Complex Area

Planned upgrades to the area include an updated Xfinity Live!, a new hotel, new retailers, new restaurants, and a concert venue.

PHILADELPHIA — A major upgrade to the South Philadelphia sports complex area is in the works, hoping to transform the largely barren area into a tourist destination.

Comcast Spectator said the upgrades are coming in two phases.

Phase one includes $12 million in updates to Xfinity Live!, the addition of a more than 5,500 seat concert venue, a hotel, new retailer establishments, and restaurants.

The Xfinity Live! updates are expected to be completed in 2025 or early 2025, while officials aim to have the concert venue, retail, restaurants and hotel completed by 2028.

Phase two is still in development, with officials calling it "aspirational."

Officials said what could come in phase two includes a new live-work-play district with additional retail and restaurants, residences, office space, and green space.

While there is no timeline for phase two's completion, officials said a 10-year completion is expected if all goes according to plan.
