Man Charged After Baby Abandoned At Philly Walmart, 2 More Sought

Alganon Muhammad and two others left a 3-month-old child after being confronted for suspected theft at the store, Philadelphia Police said.

PHILADELPHIA — After a 3-month-old child was left at a Philadelphia Walmart, authorities have filed charges against a 22-year-old man.

Philadelphia Police said Alganon Muhammad, 22, surrendered to police Friday in connection with the Thursday, Jan. 18 incident at a Walmart on the 4300 block of Byberry Road.

According to police, Muhammad came into the store at about 11:30 p.m. Jan. 18 with two other people and a 3-month-old child.

Police said the group was confronted by store security after they left the checkout area under suspicion of theft.

The three adults left the store, leaving the young girl behind, police said.

The child was not hurt and was to Frankford-Torresdale Hospital for evaluation before being released to her mother.

Police said Muhammad is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, retail theft, criminal conspiracy, and recklessly endangering another person.

Authorities are still looking into the other two adults, a white woman and a black man, who were with Muhammad at the time of the incident.
