Man Commits Suicide After Killing Neighbors In West Philly: Police

A man and woman, 77 and 76, were shot and killed by their neighbor, who then took his own life Wednesday afternoon in West Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA — Three people are dead after a man fatally shot his two neighbors then himself Wednesday afternoon in West Philadelphia.

The deadly incident unfolded at about 4 p.m. on the 7300 block of East Walnut Street, where police were called due to reports of gunshots and people shot, according to police.

Killed in the incident were Clinton Quarles, 77, Linda Beeks, 76, and Alvinn Berry, 66.

First responders found a man on the steps, by the front door of his home, with gunshots to his head and body. He was pronounced dead at 4:15 p.m. He was later identified as Quarles.

Another man, later identified as Berry, was found laying by Quarles, just a few feet from his own front door, as the two were neighbors. Berry was found with a gunshot to the head and was also pronounced dead at 4:15 p.m.

Authorities found a woman, later identified as Beeks, at the scene. She was taken to Einstein, where she was pronounced dead at 4:13 p.m.

Police recovered a semiautomatic handgun at the scene.

Witnesses told police Quarles and Beeks were walking into their home after returning home with groceries when Berry approached them.

Berry shot the two, then himself, police said.

Police said neighbors told investigators the couple had been involved in verbal disputes in the past.
