PHILADELPHIA — A man was taken into custody after authorities said he struck a police vehicle near Lincoln Financial Field as fans exited the Eagles game Sunday evening.

The incident occurred at about 5:50 p.m. on Pattison Avenue.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, Philadelphia Police reported a black Mercedes sedan with no registration bypassed the barricade at the intersection of Pattison Avenue and Broad Street. The corporal positioned his patrol vehicle to block the path of the Mercedes, which briefly stopped, before the driver, later identified as 45-year-old Thomas J. Herrschaft of New Jersey, ignored all commands to stop the car, police said.

Herrschaft reversed, backing away from the corporal, who then drove his vehicle forward towards the Mercedes to stop it from going around.

Herrschaft stopped his car once again, and a Philadelphia Police vehicle pulled in behind the Mercedes.

He once again put the Mercedes in reverse and struck the front end of the Philadelphia Police officer's vehicle, police said.

Officers were able to surround the Mercedes and take Herrschaft from the vehicle. Police said he was not injured and taken into custody by Philadelphia Police for numerous charges, including DUI, state police said.

Video of the incident was shared on social media.

The Philadelphia Police officer whose vehicle was struck was taken to Jefferson Hospital. Their condition is unknown.
