Man Raped, Beat Ex-Girlfriend In Olney Home: Philadelphia Police

Police said Shawon Tennessee raped and beat his ex girlfriend then barricaded himself in an Olney home early Sunday morning.

PHILADELPHIA – Philadelphia Police arrested a 27-year-old man who allegedly raped and beat his ex-girlfriend then barricaded himself inside an Olney home Sunday.

Police said Shawon Tennessee, 27, of Philadelphia was arrested Sunday, June 24 and charged with rape, aggravated assault, unlawful restraint, sexual assault, and related crimes in connection with the June 24 incident.

Police were called to the 5200 block of Marwood Road in the city's Olney section at about 4:09 a.m. June 24.

The victim, a 24-year-old woman, ran from her home to police and told them Tennessee, her ex boyfriend, physically assaulted and sexually assaulted her, police said.

Police said Tennessee then barricaded himself in the home prompting a SWAT unit response.

The SWAT unit was able to get into the home and took Tennessee into custody.

Tennessee is being held on 10 percent of $150,000 bail, court records show.

His preliminary hearing is slated for July 12, according to court documents.
