According to police, at about 11:05 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, an sergeant on bike patrol saw a male, later identified as Middleton, standing on the sidewalk at 2500 N. Alder Street with a gun in his hand.
The sergeant stopped, got off the bike, then ordered the Middleton to drop the gun, police said. Middleton then ran through an alley with the sergeant following, police said.
As the sergeant chased Middleton into the alley, police said Middleton raised the gun at the sergeant, which led the sergeant to fire four rounds at him, hitting him in the leg and right side, police said.
Police found the gun, which was loaded with 10 rounds, in the alley, and learned it was reported stolen from Clearfield, Pennsylvania – about four hours from Philadelphia – in October 2016, police said.
Middleton was taken to Temple University Hospital and was admitted in stable condition, police said.
There were no other injuries to police or civilians as a result of the firearm discharge, according to police.
