Meet The Richest Person In Pennsylvania

PHILADELPHIA — Forbes analyzed the fortunes of the country’s richest people to identify each state’s wealthiest person. This is the magazine’s fifth edition of the list.

Pennsylvania’s richest resident is Victoria Mars, the Mars Inc. candy fortune heiress, who is worth $7 billion, according to Forbes.

Mars has long been featured on the list of Pennsylvania's richest residents due to her family's company. She serves as the candy and pet food company's Board of Directors Chairman.

Mars Inc. is known for iconic candies such as Twix, 3 Musketeers, Skittles, Milky Way, and many more.

A Wharton School of Business grad, Mars inherited a roughly 8 percent stake in the company when her father, Forrest Mars Jr., died in 2016.

Mars Inc. was founded in 1911 in Newark, New Jersey by her great-grandfather Franklin Clarence Mars. In 2014, the company reported $33 billion in sales.

Mars' three sisters are also heirs to the company.

The net worth of the individuals on the list varies. For example, Washington is home to the world’s two richest and most recognizable billionaires; Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates, but in certain states, the richest people only had a nine-figure net worth, Forbes writes.

Collectively, the wealthy on the Forbes list had a net worth of $875 billion, which the magazine says set a new record.

8. Sheldon Adelson: $35.7 billion (Nevada)
9. Phil Knight & family: $35 billion (Oregon)
10. Jacqueline Mars: $28.1 billion (Virginia)
