MLK Drive In Philadelphia Opening To Vehicular Traffic This Weekend

The road has been closed to vehicles on weekends, in part due to the MLK Drive Bridge Rehabilitation Project​ since April 1.

PHILADELPHIA — This weekend, Martin Luther King Drive in Philadelphia will be open to vehicular traffic, officials said.

The road, which has been closed to vehicles on weekends in part due to the MLK Drive Bridge Rehabilitation Project since April 1, will be open to vehicles Saturday and Sunday.

Traffic will resume in both directions from the East Falls Bridge to the construction zone south of Sweetbriar Drive.

This will allow residents of West Fairmount Park to more easily attend the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta, and ease potential traffic concerns caused by this weekend's races.

Weekend closures 0f MLK Drive also increase recreational access for the public with a safer experience for walkers, joggers, and cyclists, the city said.

The remaining weekends for closure operations in 2023 will be:

  • Nov. 4 and Nov. 5
  • Nov. 11 and Nov. 12
  • Nov. 18 and Nov. 19
  • Nov. 25 and Nov. 26
