Police arrived to find the woman, later identified as Jones, suffering from apparent blunt force trauma. She was declared dead minutes later.

According to Temple, Jones was a third-year nursing student and described as a "promising young woman."

"She enjoyed helping and caring for others, and her decision to pursue a career in nursing reflects just that," university officials said in a news release on the incident. "There is no doubt that she had a very bright future ahead of her, which makes delivering this news especially difficult."

Action News reports Lackey was also a Temple student and that he has been suspended from the school.

Lackey is scheduled for a July 8 preliminary hearing and is being held without bail, court documents show.
