Nifty Fifty's Prepares To Return To South Philly
Step Back In Time And Taste The Memories At Nifty Fifty's
Drop a quarter in the jukebox, cue up your favorite 50's song and step back in time as everything old is new again in South Philadelphia. If you are craving the charm, music and food of the good old days, your wait is almost over. Nifty Fifty's, a mainstay in South Philly for years, will be returning to a new location at 10th and Oregon.
The previous Nifty Fifty's restaurant was at the busy intersection of 10th and Reed Streets just down the block from two other popular South Philadelphia mainstays Pat's and Geno's Steaks. That location closed in the early 2000's when five co-owners of the Nifty Fifty's chain pleaded guilty to a $2 million tax evasion conspiracy.
At a time when the Penrose and Oregon diners in South Philly have cut back their hours from a 24-hour operation, Nifty Fifty's will fill a void especially when it comes to themed-dining. Patrons can expect Coney Island-style hot dogs, fresh cut fries, burgers and steak sandwiches as well as frosty and creamy milkshakes than will rival any ice cream parlor all with a play list of 1950's music from Elvis Presley, The Platters to Buddy Holly and Bill Haley and the Comets coming from a real jukebox.

During a live broadcast of FOX television's Fox and Friends show in New York City, Nifty Fifty's owner Leo McGlynn announced that his chain will return to South Philly with a new location set to open within the next six months at 10th and Oregon. McGlynn told the Fox audience that what sets his restaurants aside from some of the other establishments is that his food is fresh and “we make everything fresh in front of the customer.”
The South Philadelphia outlet is just one of the new locations set to open in the future. McGlynn said two more franchises are expected to sign on. They would add to other locations that are currently open for business including one in Northeast Philadelphia, another in
Turnersville, New Jersey and a third in Ridley Township, Delaware County.
