PHILADELPHIA — The Eagles 2020-2021 season is underway (albeit with a pretty rocky start) and the first home game of the season is set for Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.

While fans may want to gather outside Lincoln Financial Field for a classic Birds tailgate party before during and after the game, city officials said tailgating won't be permitted.

Mayor Jim Kenney said in a news conference Tuesday that there will be no tailgating at the Linc during the Eagles game.

The street closures will be in effect for each Eagles home game until further notice.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area by using alternate routes and allow for extra driving time in areas near the sports complex.

Employees and staff who need to access the sports complex or people patronizing Xfinity Live! should be ready to present their tickets/ID to police to get access during the street closures.

"We're working with the Eagles and some of the property owners down there that have traditionally been locales for tailgating to keep that from happening," he said.

Parking lots often used for tailgating will be locked and tailgating will not be permitted in FDR Park. Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and Philadelphia Police Department will increase patrols of the park on Eagles game days.

"We're just trying to keep people safe," Kenney said.

He said as a long time, rabid Eagles fan there is nowhere he'd rather be than in the parking lot tailgating before the 1 p.m. game.

"There will be other football seasons," he said. "Hopefully we can all go back down and enjoy it again."
