PHILADELPHIA, PA — Philly area native and pop music superstar Taylor Swift announced her engagement to Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce Tuesday, sparking reactions from her new extended family and the Philadelphia sports faithful alike.

Swift announced her engagement in a Tuesday Instagram post featuring the pair posing in a flower garden.

Eagles franchise legend Jason Kelce didn't make an immediate direct comment, but his various ventures voiced plenty.

The podcast also reshared a clip of the brothers talking about Travis Kelce's trip to a Swift concert before he actually met her.

Philly fans and figures had a broad spread of reactions.

"Jason Kelce in a tuxedo T-Shirt trying to give a Best Man speech that incorporates an Emily Brontë quote, a Mac Miller lyric, and a marketing plug for Garage Beer," one fan wrote.

"Is someone gonna photoshop the eagles super bowl ring on Taylor Swift or should I do it," another added.

"The Eagles delayed Taylor Swift’s engagement by 6 months lol," said another.

Swift has long held an unusual place in Philly sports fandom. Beloved for her local connection to her hometown of Reading, she sang the national anthem before a Phillies World Series game in 2008. She also performed at Sixers and Reading Phillies games long before she was a star. For years, she was seen out and about around the world wearing Eagles gear.

When she began dating Travis, the connection wasn't severed, just made more confused. Jason had, by then, established himself into an Eagles franchise legend and such a larger than life figure that it almost more deeply incorporated Swift into the Philly sports world.

But there was a growing rift of mutual animosity between Philly and Kansas City following the Birds loss in Super Bowl 57, and while Jason remained a prominent figure in the Eagles organization and the NFL after his 2024 retirement, his departure from the team and the 2025 Super Bowl rematch with Kansas City served to underline the split between Swift and Philly.

The engagement news comes not only in the midst of Swift's new album release, but also just an hour or so after ESPN broke a story about Travis considering retirement following the 2025-26 season.

Prominent in the story: Travis’s refusal to retire on a losing note after the Super Bowl 59 blowout at the hands of the Birds.

Back in February, Eagles superstar Saquon Barkley publicly defended Swift after she was briefly booed at the Super Bowl.

"She was an Eagles fan her whole life, I think the Swifties should come to our side," Barkley added.
