Peeps Stops Production In Pennsylvania Due To Coronavirus

PENNSYLVANIA — The popular Easter candy Peeps will cease production at its two Pennsylvania plants due to concerns over the new coronavirus, Peeps's manufacturer said Tuesday. But don't worry Peeps lovers, the candy for this Easter season is already made.

Just Born, the manufacturer of Peeps, said it is temporarily suspending production at its Philadelphia and Bethlehem facilities.

The company said its plants will shut down at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and remain closed through at least April 7.

All Peeps have been produced and shipped to retailers for this Easter season, the company confirmed.

The Peeps & Company Store in Center Valley will be closed through at least April 7, as well.

"Our internal task force for COVID-19 continues to regularly monitor the domestic and worldwide impact of the virus and is following recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), local and state health and government authorities and the World Health Organization," Just Born said in its announcement.

Just Born said all of its associates will be paid throughout the closure.
