Penn Professor Under Fire For Comments On Christine Blasey Ford

"I think she should have held her tongue. If I were her I would have."

PHILADELPHIA, PA — A University of Pennsylvania professor is under fire after alleging that Christine Blasey Ford "exaggerated" the sexual abuse she said she she suffered at the hands of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

"I think it violates principles of basic fair play for her to be bringing this up," Amy Wax, the Robert Mundheim Professor of Law at Penn, said in an interview with Brown University Professor Glenn Loury on Youtube. "I think she should have held her tongue. If I were her I would have. I think basic dignity and fairness dictates that, you know, it’s too late, Ms. Ford."

An online petition to get Wax fired is circulating the Internet and had garnered more than 7,000 signatures as of Thursday morning.

"When a university allows one of their professors to excoriate victims of sexual violence all while minimizing the trauma caused by the assailant, what kind of message is that institution sending to their students?" the petition reads.

It's not the first time Wax has faced backlash for her comments. Earlier this year, she alleged in a different video conversation with Loury that black students don't do as well at Penn's law school as other students.

At least one fellow Penn professor thinks it's important for students to be exposed to differing worldviews and doesn't want to see Wax go.

"We need those voices for us to have conversations about how we can change minds, change ideas, and change positions," Maurice Henderson, an adjunct fellow at Penn's Center for Public Health Initiatives, told CBS3.

Wax was relegated by the school to only teaching elective law classes back in March.
