Philadelphia Police Officer, Father Of 2, Killed In Shooting: Officials
Officer Shane Seiber, 40, was fatally shot while responding to a call about an armed man in West Philadelphia, authorities said.
PHILADELPHIA, PA — A 40-year-old Philadelphia police officer and father of two was killed early Saturday while responding to a report of an armed man in West Philadelphia, city officials said.
Officer Shane Seiber, a 10-year veteran assigned to the 19th District, was shot three times after officers responded to a report of a man with a gun on a porch in the 100 block of North 52nd Street, according to CBS Philadelphia.
Authorities identified the suspected gunman as Eric Lewis, 35, who allegedly opened fire on responding officers, killing Seiber and critically injuring another officer. Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner announced charges against Lewis, including homicide of a law enforcement officer, murder and attempted homicide in connection with the shooting.

During a press conference on Saturday, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel said Seiber was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he died despite efforts to save his life, according to WHYY.
A second officer, 33, was shot 12 times and remained hospitalized in stable condition, although Bethel cautioned that his recovery remained uncertain, according to ABC6.

Seiber leaves behind his wife, a 7-year-old son and a 3-year-old daughter, as well as his parents, siblings, colleagues and friends, according to media reports.
Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker announced Seiber's death Saturday, offering condolences to his family and fellow officers in the 19th District. Parker also directed that flags remain at half-staff until sunset on the day of Seiber's interment in recognition of his service.
Lewis also fired at nine additional officers who were not struck, and the investigation into the shooting continues, Krasner said.
Police were initially called to the 100 block of North 52nd Street in West Philadelphia around 12:22 a.m. Saturday for a report of a man armed with a gun on a porch, according to CBS Philadelphia. When officers arrived about 30 minutes later and approached the home, they came under heavy gunfire, Bethel said.
