Phillies Fire Manager Joe Girardi
Bench coach Rob Thomson will serve as interim manager, the team said in its announcement Friday.

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Phillies have fired manager Joe Girardi, the team announced Friday morning.
Girardi joined the team before the 2020 season and had a 132-141 record with the Phillies.
The announcement comes shortly after Girardi told reporters he was unconcerned about his job.

"I don't worry about my job," Girardi said on Monday, according to ESPN. "I've never worried about my job. I don't worry about my job. I've got to do my job. It's the business of being a manager. I don't worry about it."
The Phillies have lost 12 of the last 15 games.

Their record as of Friday morning is 22-29, putting them in third place in the NL East.
In addition to Girardi being let go, coaching assistant Bobby Meacham was relieved from his duties.
The team said bench coach Rob Thomson will serve as interim manager through the end of the season, and quality assurance coach Mike Calitri has been promoted to bench coach.
"It has been a frustrating season for us up until this point, as we feel that our club has not played up to its capabilities," president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said in the announcement. "While all of us share the responsibility for the shortcomings, I felt that a change was needed and that a new voice in the clubhouse would give us the best chance to turn things around. I believe we have a talented group that can get back on track, and I am confident that Rob, with his experience and familiarity with our club, is the right man to lead us going forward."
The team is scheduled to take on the Los Angeles Angles Friday and Saturday nights, as well as Sunday afternoon.
