Phillies Land Noah Syndergaard, Brandon Marsh In Trade Deadline Haul
The Phils made a series of huge moves at the MLB trade deadline, landing two top pitchers and one of the game's best young centerfielders.

PHILADLEPHIA, PA — The Phillies solidified their status as bonafide World Series contenders with their most significant trade deadline haul in recent memory, landing starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard, center fielder Brandon Marsh, and back-end reliever David Robertson in three separate trades with the Los Angeles Angels and Chicago Cubs on Tuesday.
The deals shored up weaknesses at every position of need on the roster. While Syndergaard is the biggest name, Marsh is perhaps the most surprising and most noteworthy. One of the top prospects in all of baseball before the 2021 season, Marsh has an elite glove, high ceiling bat, is still just 24, and is under team control until 2028.
Syndergaard, the former Mets ace who once boasted some of the most electric raw stuff in the game, has totally changed his repetoire the past year, and relies more on weak contact than swings and misses. He'll slot in as a highly effective number three starter behind Aaron Nola and Zack Wheeler, two of the preeminent arms in the National League.

Robertson, of course, is one of the most experienced and successful relief pitchers of his era. He previously signed with the Phillies in 2018 but had his time here derailed by injury. This year with the Cubs, he's posted a dominant 2.23 ERA and converted 14 saves.
For Syndergaard, the Phillies gave up Logan O'Hoppe, one of the top catching prospects in the game. They're deep at the position, with All Star JT Realmuto and plenty of high ceiling minor leaguers behind him. For Marsh, they surrendered Mickey Moniak, the former number one overall draft pick who was never able to find his legs as a pro.

Heading into Tuesday's game against the Braves, the Phillies stood a game ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals for the final Wild Card spot.
