Phillies Local Broadcasters Among MLB's Top 10, New Survey Says

One website asked its readers to rank broadcasting teams for the entire MLB, and Tom McCarthy, John Kruk, and crew were among the top 10.

PHILADELPHIA — When the Phillies aren't being broadcast locally by NBC Sport Philadelphia, the games have much less of an aura of levity and insight.

That's because the broadcasting team of Tom McCarthy, John Kruk, Ruben Amaro Jr., Ben Davis, and Mike Schmidt make for great analysts and play callers.

And that team in the booth is among the top 10 MLB broadcasting teams, according to readers of the website Awful Announcing.

Readers cast more than 13,000 votes in the poll.

With the votes tallied and broadcasting teams graded, the Phillies team came in at No. 7 among all local MLB broadcasting teams.

The Phils booth team earned 485 votes, with 35.05 percent of those votes grading them "A."

"The Phillies clock in with their best-ever ranking and score, the team’s first venture into the top ten," Awful Announcing wrote online. "Tom McCarthy and John Kruk work quite well together, delivering an entertaining broadcast for fans."

The top five local broadcasting teams were, according to readers:

  1. New York Mets
  2. San Francisco Giants
  3. San Diego Padres
  4. Baltimore Orioles
  5. Los Angeles Dodgers
