Philly Among Best Cities To Enjoy St Patrick's Day: WalletHub

Only two other cities in the United States were ranked better than Philadelphia for St. Patrick's Day celebrations.

PHILADELPHIA – St. Patrick's Day is a huge event in Philadelphia, and our city's passion for the Irish holiday has landed it among the best cities in the United States to celebrate it.

According to WalletHub, Philly is the third best city in the nation to enjoy the holiday.

WalletHub compared 200 of the largest cities across 17 metrics to find the best places to honor Irish culture and heritage.

"Our data set ranges from Irish pubs and restaurants per capita, to lowest price for a three-star hotel on St. Patrick’s Day, to weather forecasts," WalletHub said.

Philadelphia earned a total score of 68.83 based on those metric from WalletHub in its study.

The cities that beat out Philly are – naturally – Chicago and Boston, which were ranked first and second, respectively.

Following Philly in the top 10 are Buffalo, New York; New York City; San Francisco; Fort Collins, Colorado; Tampa, Florida; Madison, Wisconsin; and Pittsburgh.

According to WalletHub, there is an 819 percent increase in Guinness consumption on St. Patrick’s Day compared to the rest of the year. Additionally, 152.5 percent more beer is sold overall on St. Patrick's Day.

More than 33 million American claim Irish ancestry. That figure is seven times larger than Ireland's population.

Philadelphia’s Saint Patrick’s Day Parade will be held at noon on Sunday, March 12.
