Philly Breaks World Record For Longest Cheesesteak Line

PHILADELPHIA — As airports across the country scramble to prevent long lines, Philadelphia's created one, breaking the world record for "longest line of cheesesteaks."
A Guinness World Record-setting 1,291 cheesesteaks spanned the length of more than three football fields on Tuesday, which was National Cheesesteak Day.
Airport restaurants and local suppliers contributed ingredients that totaled 225 pounds of cheese sauce, 990 pounds of shaved ribeye and more than 1,200 rolls, organizers say. The line stretch through nearly the entire concourse between Terminals B and C.

"We went for the world record for the longest cheesesteak in history," said Clarence LeJeune, of MarketPlace PHL, a company that operates airport concessions. "Today we accomplished that goal here in Philadelphia."
After Guinness World Records adjudicator Michael Empric measured the line, the cheesesteaks were served to travelers, airport workers and TSA staff, who have been working without pay during the partial federal-government shutdown.

All food used in record attempts must be eaten or donated, Empric says.
"In this case, they are going to TSA agents who definitely could use some lunch," Empric said.
The record-breaking cheesesteak is a first-time category creator, according to Guinness World Records.
