One of the tenants of the home had reported McHugh for shooting off a firearm in his room upstairs, the district attorney's office said.

As police approached the second floor landing, McHugh swung open the door while holding his weapon, the DA said. Officers ordered him to put the gun down but he refused, and slammed his door closed, according to police.

The officer moved to exit the rooming house, fearing for his safety, and that's when McHugh fired two more shots at the officer, both captured on the officer's body camera, authorities said.

McHugh then barricaded himself in his room, and a SWAT team arrived to take him into custody.

Sentencing is set for November.
