Philly Pizzeria Among Best In World, International Ranking Says

PHILADELPHIA — A Philadelphia restaurant has been named among the top 50 pizzerias in the world in a new international ranking. Website 50TopPizza recently published its "Guide to the Best Pizzerias in the world."

Among the top 50 in the list was Philadelphia's Pizzeria Bedddia.

Located at 1313 N. Lee St. in Fishtown, Beddia offers just five pies, a slew of small plates, and plenty of wines.

"On the menu you will find few flavours, with fresh and excellent quality ingredients, with a dough that stands out for its crunchiness and flavour," the European-based website reads. "The pizzas range from $24 to $27 and will seem like a bargain. It is also possible to book the Hoagie Room, where you will spend two hours tasting pizza, hoagie and some appetizers."

The site touted Beddia's natural wines and homemade Negroni, as well.

Beddia began when Joe Beddia was selling pies out of the current Pizza Shackamaxon location, a few blocks from the new Beddia location and a much smaller space. Initially, fans of Beddia's pie would line up for hours to get a taste, as he offered limited hours and a limited number of pies each day he was open.

No. 1 on the list was Una Pizza Napoletana in New York City. Other U.S. pizzerias on the list include Tony's Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco (No. 6), Ribalta in New York City (No. 19), Ken's Artisan Pizza in Portland, Oregon (No. 27), Jay's Artisan Pizza in Kenmore, Kentucky (No. 28).
