Tinsel, Philly's Pop-Up Christmas Bar, Back For 2019

PHILADELPHIA — For the third year, the people behind BRU Craft & Wurst, Blume, U-Bahn and more are bringing the über-popular Christmas-themed pop-up bar Tinsel back to Philly.

Tinsel, located at 116 S. 12th St. in Washington Square West, is set to open sometime this week after delaying its Nov. 29 opening due to zoning issues, according to Tinsel's Facebook page.

A grand opening date will be announced soon.

Tinsel — which has added about 2,000 more square feet of space — will be open from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Thursday, noon to 2 a.m. Friday through Sunday. It will close for the season on Dec. 30.

Tinsel's opening follows a spooky take on the seasonal-themed bar, as the space was decked out for Halloween and titled "Nightmare Before Tinsel."

In 2018, Tinsel was full to capacity from the day it open in early December until the day it closed on New Year's Day.

Tinsel's music will again be curated with help from Mr. Christmas: XPN's Robert Drake.

The drink menu features some new additions this year, but keeps some original ideas that have a charitable spirit. A list of drinks is featured below.

For 2019, artist Scott Johnson has taken inspiration from Christmas villains such as Krampus, Game of Thrones' White Walkers, Heat Miser, the Grinch, and more to decorate the space.

Oh, and mall and professional Santas can get 50 percent off for showing up in full Santa attire. They must show credentials to get the deal.
