Philly Restaurants Will Feed Poll Workers On Election Day

Mission Taquería, Oyster House, Mike's BBQ, Cheu Noodle Bar, Laser Wolf, and more are looking to feed residents who sing up as poll workers.

PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia restaurants are giving civic minded residents a reason to work the polls on election day.

Mission Taquería in Center City is organizing a coalition of restaurants to help incentivize residents to be poll workers by providing a free meal delivered to them at their polling place on election day.

Philadelphia City Commissioners Office typically opens 800-plus voting locations, but without enough help, many will remain shuttered, creating longer lines, discouraged voters, and lower turnout.

Mission Taquería is working with Power the Polls, a national campaign which is helping state and local governments manage polling applications and voter messaging.

Registered voters can sign up online here now.

Once assigned to a polling place, those who registered through Mission Taquería’s Fuel the Polls campaign will receive a free lunch from one of the participating restaurants.

Among those confirmed to be participating in this initiative are Oyster House, Middle Child, Martha, Mike's BBQ, Essen Bakery, Kalaya, Bing Bing Dim Sum/Cheu Noodle Bar, Laser Wolf, and Bunny Hop, a West Philly food kitchen. A number of other restaurants are expected to join as well.

Power the Polls has also agreed to be a benefactor for Fuel the Polls, by covering all the food costs for those participating.
